Title: Power Sector Master Plan - Power Generation Efficiency Improvement Project
Budget: 856,829 EUR
Dates: August 2018 - June 2019
Partner: Mott MacDonald
In support of the Uzbekistan economic development vision, the project focuses on preparing a master plan to address peak electricity demand growth and system stability. This master plan will consider the long-term power demand and supply requirements, identify options for increased distributed generation and review investment and technology options to achieve the load growth.
Identify present demand and projected demand growth over the next 20 years in the major load centres
Assess potential energy sources for generation development in Uzbekistan, and compare the potential development costs of in-state generation versus the expected costs interstate purchase of electricity, including the transmission development costs over the long term
Identify power supply alternatives, including renewable energy options and the efficient use of power
Investigate alternative generation scenarios with the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well as define the priorities for energy efficiency and renewable energy use
Identify opportunities for reform within the power sector, including private sector participation, for capacity development, and international aid agency coordination
Update the existing Uzbekenergo's master plan to match present issues in the power sector
Develop the future transmission network in steps, taking into consideration the interconnection of future load centres and potential generation facilities
Develop Uzbekenergo's planning cell to update the master plan by providing on-the-job and classroom-based training for planning cell engineers in modern power system planning techniques and tools, as a capacity-building measure.
